It is official, the laundry in my house is most definitely multiplying. Last week I had a good old moan at everyone about picking up their dirties and putting them in the washing basket (something which normally falls on deaf ears). Unlike the rest of the UK, Scotland has had quite good weather and so I have managed to get lots of washing done, including everything unearthed by my surprisingly obedient children. As we speak it is stacked in piles around me, and being the slight control freak that I am, I cannot put it away until its done (sad, I know, but true ). I sort of added to the problem by getting the summer clothes down from the top of the wardrobe and giving them a rinse. Needless to say, I haven't quiet managed to put the winter ones away yet and so we are bursting at the seams (nothing that a good jumble sale wouldn't cure according to my hubby).
Yesterday was spent baking for my nephews' eighth birthday, marshmallow top hats, marsbar cake, mini crispie cakes and fudge topped cup cakes with assorted smartie, choc button, and sprinkle decorations. They looked fab all piled into my three tier pink cake stand (even if I do say so myself) and all those e-numbers served to keep the kids bouncy for a good five hours. I should say that my sister hired a bouncy castle and it wasn't simply the kids going mad.
Has two year old Aoife today, so we spent the morning singing and dancing and re-reading the same story book a million times. Hubby was here as well, so she was perfectly happy snuggled up with him on the sofa (his excuse for an afternoon nap). House looks like a bombsite, but I don't really care.
Got word from the council that our building warrant has been granted today and so officially all systems are go!(only two years after we started). This afternoon we ordered a special loft ladder as we are getting the hatch widened so that we can store our junk (I mean essentials) in the existing loft space which will be unaffected by the building work. Our renewed excitement had us spreading out the plans to get a look at what will eventually (have given up on all timescales) be our lovely home (fingers crossed, lots of praying). Not being great with measurements, hubby looked quite worried at some of the questions I was asking and if I'm honest theres a few things on the plans that I apparently requested but have no memory of. Just lets say I'm keeping my mouth closed and hoping for the best.
Hubby is looking to have all our friends over on Saturday night to celebrate him passing his qualifying exams and as much as I like seeing them it will mean me doing a mad clear up/cooking frenzy when I come in from work at one. Although I know he will help, all I really want to do on a Saturday evening is watch "Any Dream Will Do" with my kids and fall asleep on the couch. I must be getting old before my time, but I'll keep you all posted as to what we end up doing.
Its poured down all day here so I didn't quite get my hanging baskets potted up. The one lovely thing about the rain is the smell of the grass and the hedges and how everythings looks clean and shiny. Hubby's not amused because he has only just cut the grass (or daisy killing as I used to call it as a child) and he swears he can see it growing in front of his very eyes.
Hope you all have a lovely evening/morning, I'm off to catch up with everyone elses goings on.
Take care, Jacqui x

Your baking for your nephew sounds amazing! I love Any Dream Will Do too, nothing beats Saturday night curled up on the sofa (ahh, if my 20-year-old self knew i would one day be saying that ...!)
Hello Jaqui,
My husband is the untidy type, it is infuriating!! Baking for nephew sounds wonderful, my grandson will be eight in August, cocolate cake I think. We have had much rain here for a week, so much so that the gardens are in need of some tender loving care, hoping for some sunshine soon. Have not potted up plants yet, usually leave it to the last minute, say late May.

You have reminded me of an a absolute favourite book of mine which is McCarthy's Bar. I will add it to my Library Thing collection (link on my blog, it is great funmaking up your faves). Did you know Pete McCarthy died (very sad). He came from close to where my mother was from. I love Little Women too. I am going to read your blog now!

I have two men who leave washing all over. Love the 'daisy killing' expression. Our grass is desperate for a cut. I too like quiet Saturday nights, showing my age again? Thanks for your kind comments on my ramblings. Do you live in Ireland?

nothing beats imminent building works for a good old sortie! I tell everyone in this far too small house that they all suffer with piles.. well they do ..piles of clothes here, piles of books there.....carry on baking - its therapeutic --same as blogging!
Loved your laundry philosophy! Here the pile grows even though there are just the two of right now. The Great Dane has to be reminded once in a while that the floor beside the bed is NOT the laundry basket! I love to get into bed and smell the fresh air scent of the line dried sheets.
Me again, sorry!
I do love 'Black is the colour', I am a big Christy Moore fan and love that one. I have his latest DVD and CD.

Yummyyyy! that cake sounds like a complete kiddie dream. I'd eat three helpings and feel sick all the way home.
